Blue Dogs send letter to members of Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, urge bipartisan cooperation
Today, members of the Blue Dog Coalition leadership sent a letter to each of the twelve members of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. In the letter the Blue Dog leaders urge the committee members to pursue a balanced, bipartisan solution that will control our nation’s debt and ensure that the United States remains the leader in the world economy. Ross: “Short-term deal puts our economy in jeopardy, threatens the full faith and confidence of the United States”
Today Congressman Mike Ross (D-Ark.), Blue Dog Co-Chair, issued the following statement on legislation in the House to raise the national debt limit.”A short-term deal that does nothing to address the real fiscal challenges facing the country puts our economy in jeopardy and threatens the full faith and confidence of the United States. This is not the time for political posturing; there is far too much at stake.
Chandler responds to executive order, urges agencies to conduct internal review of outdated and burdensome regulations
Today Congressman Ben Chandler, Chair of the Blue Dog Task Force on Oversight and Regulatory Review, released the following statement after the President issued an executive order again imploring all independent federal agencies to review their existing regulations “to determine whether any such regulations should be modified, streamlined, expanded, or repealed so as to make the agency’s regulatory program more effective or less burdensome in achieving the regulatory objectives.”
Oversight and Regulatory Review: Blue Dogs send letter to heads of 12 major independent federal agencies
On January 18th of this year, President Obama issued Executive Order 13563 calling on every federal agency to review their regulations to ensure they “promote predictability and reduce uncertainty,” “take into account benefits and costs,” and “identify and use the best, most innovative, and least burdensome tools for achieving regulatory ends.”However, independent agencies are not subjected to the executive order, and to date, only one has voluntarily implemented the requirement.
